In summer you can enjoy a walk in the lovely pine forests surrounding the small town of Saint Nicolas; in winter the region turns into a paradise for cross country skiers. The town is also home to the Centre d'Ètudes Franco-Provecales, an important cultural centre. Aosta (10 km) - make sure you see the ornate door to the cathedral, built in the 11th century. Mont Blanc (about 40 km) - home to the highest mountain in western Europe the Mont Blanc massif is a popular location for mountaineering, hiking and skiing.
